What to Expect

If you have never been to a chiropractor or have not been for a long time then you might not know what occurs on a new patient consult or a standard appointment. The first appointment is always a longer consult where your medical and social history is taken so that the doctor can diagnosis any conditions or dysfunction. This examination comprises both history taking and orthopedic and neurological testing. Once a diagnosis is determined, then a report of findings is scheduled. In this appointment you are taken through expectations, prognosis, resolution time, and how your unique situation will be approached and treated. Treatment is then conducted utilizing the most up-to-date evidence based approaches.

A standard appointment / consult takes less time but during the consult a review of your current health state and any changes are noted. Repeat testing is done to determine changes / improvement / regression, after which the appropriate care and treatment is performed.

Our goal is simply to improve your daily functioning and health.

Why Choose

Chiropractic?

The chiropractic sciences focus on the neuromusculoskeletal system; the brain and nervous system, the muscles, and the joints. This means that the body is viewed holistically, as well as structurally and biomechanically. That is to say that an issue with one area of the body might be making the body compensate in another area, thus causing pain and dysfunction. The concept of chiropractic is to attempt to remove and reprogram dysfunctional / faulty patterns through both neuroplasticity and motor reprogramming to re-educate and re-define how daily functioning occurs.  This is done through exercises and adjustments.

Chiropractic encompases many different techniques and is always tailored to each individual client. This means that each client's case is unique and requires varied approaches. At Kingston Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, we emphasis chiropractic techniques that are both comfortable and effective. Chiropractic is a safe and cost effective approach to healthcare. Chiropractic is not about "cracking" and "popping", although for some individuals this is done via adjustments. It is important to know that since each case is distinct as to what the person is experiencing - so are the treatments and methods utilized. There are many low force techniques that are non-invasive and gentle to the touch. The field of chiropractic science has proven through evidence based research to be the most effective approach for correction of lowerback pain, neck pain, and headaches among other conditions.

Benefits of chiropractic are vast and include: decreased pain, increased range of motion, increased postural awareness, greater neural motor control and function, increased athletic performance, decreased muscular tension, among many others.

My goal is to optimize an individual’s health through a variety of physical modalities that improves the neuromusculoskeletal system and allows the body’s systems to function at their absolute best.

Why should I do rehab exercises?

Flexibility and strengthening are essential to stabilizing proper functioning joints, muscles, and the nervous system. Whether it is a new problem or a re-occurring injury, rehabilitation allows for you to re-educate your movement patterns, reprogram your nervous system's firing patterns, and strengthen your motor / muscle patterns. This allows you to address the reason why your body has manifested with pain, dysfunction, or that "something just isn't right" feeling. Rehab allows you to move beyond merely masking symptoms that present when your fuctional pain threshold is surpassed and allows your body to reprogram itself for proper functioning and health. Exercise and conditioning goal is to prevent future reoccurence. Rehabilitation and exercise do not need to be sweating producing, weight lifting, strenuous exercises - but rather involve gentle patterns of repetitive movements. Our goal is to restore functional movement patterns means that we wish to ensure you are above your bodies daily demands. If you wish to run a marathon or compete at an elite level, we can do that as well, but at the core of all exercise are the principles of functional movement patterns. Put in a different way all babies crawl before they walk, and walk before they run. It is the primitive movement patterns that build to the more complex patterns.  At Kingston Chiropractic and Rehabilitation we are realistic that you are busy and thus we will always attempt to ensure that you have the proper time and training to do your exercises.

Can I see a chiropractor if I am not in pain?

Short answer is yes!

Pain is the body's response to dysfunction. That is, it is the mechanism that tells us that something is wrong and to slow down. Fortunately, our bodies are amazing organisms that mask and compensate so efficiently that we often ignore the early warning signs until pain presents unfortunately. Chiropractors address the body as a whole and focus on the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems. By evaluating these systems we can not only determine if faults are present but also encourage increased and more functional movement. Perhaps the best analogy is going to the dentist. A dentist does not merely wish to see you when you have cavities that are causing you pain, but rather if you speak to a dentist they will encourage you to brush and floss daily, and to come in for a check-up to ensure your dental hygiene is proper. This is similiar in chiropractic. With a healthy check-up, balanced nutrition, and exercise, chiropractic can help optimize movement and health.
